Press EMERGENCY ART/SPACE 164

  • By Tess

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 19, 2014
EMERGENCY ART/SPACE 164 IS PLEASE TO ANNOUNCE THE CURRENT SHOW BY ARTIST TESS FELIX

Stinson Beach, California artist Tess Felix weaves environmental elements into classic portraiture in the current Emergency Art and Space 164 exhibition, on view through March 2015.
At first look the art is beyond abstract but at closer observation this clever artist takes a realistic and literal approach to the genre of portraiture that is the centerpiece of this show. Ms. Felix, who has a background in the theatre and opera, is provocative in her usage of plastics and she goes back to her roots in opera by depicting the main character from Puccini’s “Madam Butterfly.”

Beyond the faces created by the artist is a focus on the humanity of the subjects. The works depict a culture cluttered with plastics, excess and waste, but also allows beauty, humor with curiosity, and conversation. The portraits are colorful, poignant, and have been given humanizing souls that shows juxtaposition between the subject matter and the plastic materials used to create them.

  • By Tess

What a great day this is! All days are wonderful but today, sipping my morning tea, I learned that BJ Spoke Gallery announced the winners of EXPO 33, a juried competition and I am on the list! View all of the artist and my listing. Cornelia Seckel, publisher of Art Times Journal was the juror. There will be a group show in Huntington, New York in April of this year! Any NY friends? I would love to meet for coffee.
